Your Gemini account
is blocked?
Most Gemini withdrawal blocks are timed holds, and Gemini publishes how long each one runs. Working out which hold you are on answers the question faster than any support ticket will.

Select what matches your situation
Everything else works; the withdrawal is the only thing blocked.
Withdrawals temporarily unavailable
A recent password reset has placed a hold on withdrawals.
What it means
Gemini applies a 72-hour withdrawal hold following a password reset. Nothing is under review — a timer is running.
What Gemini requires
Nothing. The hold is time-based, not document-based.
Your first step
Count 72 hours from the reset, not from when you noticed. If you did not reset the password yourself, that is the urgent part, not the hold.

What Gemini actually restricts, and for how long
Gemini publishes the causes of a crypto withdrawal restriction alongside the period each one lasts. Three of the four end by themselves.
A password reset — 72 hours
Gemini applies a 72-hour withdrawal hold after a password reset. The hold exists because a password reset is what an attacker does first, so the window protects the account while the real owner still has time to notice.
A pending bank (ACH) transfer
The withdrawal hold stays active for as long as the deposited funds are in transit. Gemini states that ACH deposits take four to five business days to clear, and that business days exclude weekends and US federal holidays.
A pending debit card transfer — 24 hours
A debit card purchase carries its own 24-hour hold, separate from the ACH one. Two deposits made the same day can therefore free up on two different dates.
A sign-in from a new device
Gemini blocks the sign-in itself until the new device is authorised, so the account looks inaccessible rather than restricted. Nothing is frozen; the device is.
A newly added withdrawal address — seven days
Where Withdrawal Protection is enabled, Gemini imposes a seven-day waiting period on newly added addresses. It is a setting on the account, not a penalty, and it is the longest of the published holds.
Separately from these timed holds, Gemini states that where an account is restricted or under review, the ability to trade or withdraw may be limited while the review is ongoing, and that the account holder is still responsible for completing any required actions or providing requested information as soon as possible.
5 things that will make the situation worse
Do not pay anyone to shorten a timed hold
The 72-hour password-reset hold, the 24-hour card hold and the seven-day address waiting period are periods Gemini publishes. Nobody outside Gemini shortens them, and nobody inside it does either.
Do not reset the password again to clear the hold
The reset is what starts the 72-hour clock. Doing it a second time restarts it.
Do not upload an expired document
Gemini states plainly that it is unable to accept expired documents, so an out-of-date passport costs a full round trip.
Do not let a review sit unanswered
Gemini warns that delays in resolving an account review can affect the ability to withdraw before an account enters withdrawal-only mode or closure.
Do not send documents nobody asked for
Gemini's own advice on verification is to provide the information it has requested. Volunteering more identity documents to an unsolicited message is how impersonation works.
If your account is restricted or under review, your ability to trade or withdraw funds may be limited while the review is ongoing. You are still responsible for completing any required actions or providing requested information as soon as possible.

How to tell which hold you are on
Read the notice, not the balance
Gemini names the cause: a password reset, a pending transfer, a card purchase, a new device or a review. Each ends differently.
Check the date of the deposit that funded it
An ACH deposit holds the withdrawal for as long as the funds are in transit, and Gemini puts that at four to five business days.
Check whether Withdrawal Protection is on
It imposes a seven-day waiting period on newly added addresses — the longest hold Gemini publishes, and one you switched on yourself.
Answer any request for information first
A review is the only case with no clock. Gemini asks that requests be answered as soon as possible and warns that delays can run past its own deadlines.
What Gemini may ask you for
Gemini publishes its document requirements, and the rejections it causes are almost always about the document's condition rather than its type.
A valid government-issued photo ID
For US residents Gemini lists a passport, a state-issued driver's licence, a state-issued identification card or a residence permit. Expired documents are not accepted.
A biometric face scan
Gemini's verification pairs the photo ID with a selfie capture, so a clear photograph of the document alone is not enough.
For residents outside the US, a wider set
Gemini lists a passport, a national ID, a driving licence issued by the country of residence as registered on the account, and/or a proof of address document.
Whatever a review specifically asks for
Gemini advises providing what it has actually requested, and its own guidance on account reviews is to respond promptly rather than to send more.
Gemini's rule about how the image is captured is worth more attention than the list itself: identification documents should be fully readable, free of glare, and without cut-offs or missing information.

When was your account blocked?
What we actually do
Identify which hold you are actually on
Five causes, five different endings. Four of them are answered by a date rather than by a document.

Work out the real release date
Business days exclude weekends and US federal holidays, and a transfer started on a non-business day starts processing on the next one.
Get the document capture right the first time
Unexpired, fully readable, no glare, nothing cut off. That is Gemini's own list, and it is where repeat submissions come from.

Prepare the answer to a review
A review is the only Gemini restriction with no timer. What you send, and how quickly, is the whole of it.
Tell you when the answer is simply to wait
If a published hold is running, that is the answer, and we would rather say so than open a case around it.
The decision is always the exchange's. What we control is that your case reaches it complete, correct and on time.
