Your BitMEX account
is blocked?
On BitMEX the deciding fact is usually jurisdiction, not conduct — and its own policy reserves the right to close an account immediately and liquidate open positions where it finds a user in a restricted jurisdiction or misrepresenting their location.

You can reduce positions and not open them.
Close-only
New positions cannot be opened on this account.
What it means
This is the shape a jurisdictional restriction usually takes: BitMEX applies controls to restrict access to its trading platform from restricted jurisdictions, and the account is limited to closing rather than opening.
What BitMEX requires
Nothing that documents about your trading address.
Your first step
Read the restricted jurisdiction policy before building a case. This category is decided by where you are, and it does not have an appeal that turns on your conduct.

Why BitMEX restricts an account
Two of these end by themselves. One of them is not a review at all, and no document changes it.
A restricted jurisdiction
BitMEX publishes a restricted jurisdiction policy naming the places from which trading or holding positions is prohibited, and applies controls to restrict access from them.
A false representation about location or residence
Where BitMEX determines that a user has given false representations about their location, incorporation, establishment, citizenship or residence, its operator reserves the right to immediately close accounts and liquidate any open positions.
Verification that has not been completed
BitMEX's user verification programme requires verification in order to deposit, trade, modify open positions or withdraw funds; unverified users cannot withdraw from the account at all.
A recent security update on the account
BitMEX disables withdrawals for 24 to 72 hours following a security update on the account, to prevent unauthorised access.
The withdrawal whitelist you enabled
Where the address book has the whitelist setting enabled, all withdrawal requests must go to a saved address or a linked account, and every other address is rejected.
Where the cause is jurisdictional, BitMEX's controls typically limit the account to closing existing positions rather than opening new ones. That is a different state from a compliance review, and it does not conclude with the account being restored.
5 things that will make the situation worse
Do not misstate your location to keep an account open
BitMEX's operator reserves the right to immediately close accounts and liquidate open positions where it determines a user gave false representations about location, incorporation, establishment, citizenship or residence.
Do not expect a document to answer a jurisdiction finding
The restricted jurisdiction policy is a list of places, not an assessment of your behaviour.
Do not count on 24 hours after a security update
The published window is 24 to 72 hours, and the upper end is part of the rule rather than an exception to it.
Do not disable the whitelist to push a withdrawal through
The whitelist is the protection that stops an attacker withdrawing to their own address, and turning it off is exactly what an attacker needs.
Do not pay anyone to restore a closed BitMEX account
Where the closure follows a jurisdiction finding, the outcome BitMEX publishes is closure and liquidation, not a reviewable restriction.
If BitMEX determines that a user has given false representations about their location, incorporation, establishment, citizenship or residence, or detects a user is from a Restricted Jurisdiction, HDR reserves the right to immediately close their accounts and liquidate any open positions.

What to check first on BitMEX
Check the restricted jurisdiction policy
It is published separately from the help centre and it decides whether the case is about conduct at all.
Check whether the account is verified
Verification is required to deposit, trade, modify open positions or withdraw funds.
Check for a recent security update
Withdrawals are disabled for 24 to 72 hours after one, and the window is a range.
Check the address book whitelist setting
With it enabled, only saved addresses and linked accounts are accepted as withdrawal destinations.
What BitMEX may ask you for
The verification package is published, and two of its four items are not documents at all.
A photo identity document
The first item in BitMEX's published user verification requirements for individuals.
A proof of address
Required alongside the identity document.
A selfie
Part of the same published package.
Answers about source of funds and trading experience
BitMEX names both, which makes the written answers as much a part of verification as the documents.
BitMEX publishes one range and no review time: withdrawals are disabled for 24 to 72 hours after a security update, while how long a verification review takes is not stated. This page repeats the range and does not invent the rest.

When was your account blocked?
What we actually do
Separate jurisdiction from conduct
One of them has a document-based answer and the other does not. Everything downstream depends on which you have.

Place the restriction against the security timeline
A 24-to-72-hour window after a security update looks identical to a review until the dates are lined up.

Draft the source-of-funds answer properly
It is a named part of BitMEX's verification, and a thin answer is a slow verification.
Say when the account is not coming back
Where the published outcome is immediate closure and liquidation, we would rather tell you than take a case against it.
The decision is always the exchange's. What we control is that your case reaches it complete, correct and on time.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my BitMEX account restricted?
The commonest reasons are jurisdictional and procedural rather than disciplinary: BitMEX publishes a restricted jurisdiction policy and applies controls to restrict access from those places; verification is required to deposit, trade, modify open positions or withdraw; withdrawals are disabled for 24 to 72 hours after a security update; and an enabled address-book whitelist rejects any destination that is not saved or linked.
